South Ayrshire sides Won last years U18 event and were a stones throw from making the final in the National event in Edinburgh. The U15 side last year were also very competitive and although they did not qualify for the Nationals Queen Margaret pupil Melissa Jamieson was selected to represent West of Scotland and also won a player of the tournament award.
Here's hoping the girls bring home another trophy.

Young Sports Coach
In other news, Kyle Campbell won the Young Sports Coaching of the Year Award. More details and pictures to follow.
Pupils from Sacred Heart Primary school in Girvan visited Queen Margaret Academy Computing Department. Earlier in the day, photographs were taken of the pupils working in Art, PE and Music. In the Computing Department, they then used these photographs to produce a video of all the fun activities that they had taken part in during the day. The pupils managed to produce the videos in class and these will be burned onto DVDs and sent to Sacred Heart as a memento of their day at Queen Margaret
S2 pupils from the Modern Languages Department organised a French Café for all staff at break on Valentine’s Day. This was an enterprising project run by Mrs Doyle, Principal Teacher, whereby S2 classes were completely responsible for the organisation and running of the café; tasks ranged from selecting romantic and mushy music to the array of French pastries, tea/coffee. The main rule of the cafe, however, was that ‘French to be spoken when ordering’! Good fun was had by all and pupils form the Modern Languages Dept had requests to run it on a more frequent basis. Tres Bien!
School will be closed for in service on Friday 8th Feb. Monday 11th Feb is a local holiday. School will remain closed on Tuesday 12 th Feb for in service training. Pupils will return on Wednesday 13th Feb.
We wish all our pupils a happy and safe Feb break.
Seafood in Schools
On Wednesday 6th and Thursday the 7th Feb, Queen Margaret Academy hosted “Seafood in Schools” in association with Seafood Scotland and the Fisherman’s mission.
S1 and S2 pupils were joined by the primary 7 pupils of all our Cluster Primaries- St John’s, St Ninian’s, Sacred Heart, St Patrick’s and St Cuthbert’s- for the project, which used seafood as a context for interdisciplinary learning. The pupils experienced four workshops: “Come Dine with Me” with Catriona Frankitti from Fish for Health and learned why seafood is good for our health and sampled a wide range of fresh fish; “Meet the Fishermen” from the Fisherman’s Mission in Troon who performed practical demonstrations (and yes, pupils were given the opportunity to fillet and gut fish!!); “From Sea to Plate”, a cookery demonstration form MacCallum’s of Troon where pupils were able to see a range of locally sourced fish products being prepared and cooked- and then got to eat it all!; and “Which Fish is this?”, a demonstration where pupils viewed and handle a wide range of fish- the live lobsters and prawns were a real favourite!
Pupils had fabulous time and many sampled fish they had never even considered trying! Many thanks to Seafood Scotland and the Fisherman’s Mission – and their many volunteers -for providing our pupils and those of our Cluster primaries with such a memorable experience!
All the photo's from the two day visit are in our Media Gallery.
QMA hits the Inspection high!
Yesterday we had a South Ayrshire authority visit and inspection to assess our provision for MCMC pupils
Queen Margaret Academy is delighted to tell you that the feedback we were given at the end of the visit was extremely positive. The Inspection Team were very impressed by the responses from parents, staff and pupils whom they interviewed as part of the process. They saw our work to support our pupils as an example of excellent practice.
The Inspection Team will in due course send us a written detailed report which will available to download.
The Inspectors praised all of our staff and the caring, supportive and high achieving ethos of the school, however, particular mention goes to the Pupil Support team , the SLC staff and our Pastoral Care team Teresa. Also thanks should be made to the external agencies who support us to ensure we prepare all our pupils for life in and beyond school- SDS, STEP, Ayr College and Mike Boles in CLD.
Queen Margaret Academy made a deep impression on the Education Authority team for the ethos of the school and its commitment to our pupils.
Jack Cassidy (S1), Sean Morrison (S2) Stuart Campbell (S3) are going to the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome with Ayr Burners and Ayr Roads Cycling Clubs. This will be a great experience and allow them to see how challenging it is to race in the velodrome, as well as witnessing first hand where the cycling events will take place during the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014. We wish them all the best with their races.
Jack Smith (S3) has been representing the Ayrshire for Schools Football Team season 2012/13. The team has been very successful this year with Jack contributing to this success. This is a great achievement and we are all very proud of him at QMA.

The Catholic Church in Scotland encourages schools, parishes and other agencies to work closely together in order to celebrate the distinctive purpose of Catholic education during one particular week each year. The purpose of Catholic Education Week is to highlight the significance of education, not only for young people but for society as a whole. Students, parents, teachers and others are asked to reflect on their own roles in the education process - at home, in school, in the local parish and in other educational settings.
The theme of this year's Education Week is "Opening Hearts and Minds to God". The Senior Management Team, Guidance and RE staff will be reading at various services throughout the Diocese. They will also be joined by staff from our Cluster schools.
The Fisherman's Mission
Following on from the success of our Christmas Food Collection which helped support many people at the Fisherman’s Mission in Troon, we have been asked to support their annual coffee morning which will be held in the Walker Hall in Troon on the 9th February from 10am to 12 noon. We are appealing for donations of home baking which will be sold at the coffee morning to support the mission.
Just like the Christmas Food Collection we would like everyone in the school to get involved. Any donations of home baking can be handed in to Mrs McIntosh in RE on the 7th February. However, if home baking isn’t your thing then please feel free to come along to the coffee morning and show your support.
