In September 2011 Queen Margaret Academy launched its new discipline strategy.
Pupils are well aware of our ethos and expectation for behaviour and conduct. Our recognition of positive behaviour through a variety of ‘rewards’ has been implemented along with our approach to clearly and consistently deal with breaches of our code of conduct.
However, no system is perfect and we continuously strive to improve our procedures. Therefore, there has been one notable update to the detention system which is detailed below.
Your child has been issued with a letter today detailing that:
If a detention is issued, parents/guardians will now be sent a text alert informing them. Detentions are not issued for minor breaches of indiscipline and we believe it important to keep you updated. If more that 10 detentions are accrued pupils may be formally excluded.
Further details of the policy can be found in the Parents- Better Behaviour, Better Learning section.
We look forward to welcoming back our pupils on Monday 20th August at 8.45 am. We also look forward to greeting some new faces- our new S1!
Staff return for in service on Thursday 16th August. SMT and Guidance staff will be available for options interviews on Wednesday 15th August.
It is always with excitement that we begin each new academic session; new staff, new pupils and new curriculum. This session also brings with it a new Acting Head Teacher- Mr Sandy Yule.
S2 –S4 pupils will have been issued with timetables prior to the summer break. However, these well be re-issued on Monday.
S2 should report to the English Open Area
S3 should report to the Dining Hall
S4 should go to English classes, then to the English Open Area period 2.
S5 should report to the Crush Hall
S6 should report to the small Dining Hall.
S1 should gather in the playground in front of the Main Entrance. Ms McMillan will direct you from there.
Pupils should now also be in receipt of transport arrangements. If you have not received these you should contact SPT on 0141 333 3362.
We look forward to seeing you all on Monday- in full uniform and ready to work hard in the coming session!!
SQA exam results have now been released.
Congratulations to all our pupils for their hard work. The S4 results for this session were excellent with a record number of pupils achieving Credit results.
At Higher, Ciaran McHugh achieved a phenomenal 6 A’s at Higher with Agata Gostanska and Joseph Cochrane achieving an outstanding 5 A’s. A number of other pupils also achieved excellent results at Higher and Intermediate 2.
If you did not receive the results you anticipated, you should contact Ms McMillan and she will give you advice about appeals or the impact this may have on college or university placements.
Pupils who may have to alter their options choices based on exam results will be contacted in the coming week to speak to SMT or Guidance about subject pathways for S5 or S6. If you are not contacted by letter then you will be given the opportunity to alter some subject choices on the 1st day back of term. Mr Yule and Ms McMillan will discuss this with you then.
