Once again, this year’s Cabaret was a sell out!
The audience were amazed by the wide array of talent on display illustrating Music from the 70’s through to the 2000’s.
First up from the 70’s was the School Choir with a rousing rendition of Queen’s “We will Rock you”, followed by the Sunshine Group with “I Have a Dream”. Senior pupil Maria McGough wowed us with Elton John’s “Your Song” and the 70’s were brought to a close by the Senior Choir’s version of “Bridge Over Troubled Waters”.
The 80’s kicked off with the Brass Band and the James Bond theme and then the audience were treated to other favourites of the Decade- “Little Shop of Horrors” and “The Muppet Show “ theme tune by the Percussion Ensemble. To conclude the 80’s we were joined by a special surprise act- a tribute to the Eurovision Winners of 1981, Bucks Fizz. Unfortunately the Senior Management Team’s version was more “Buck wae nae Fizz”! A bit more practise required, especially for the male members of the team!
The 90’s rocked it up with the Guitar group and “Smells like Teen Spirit” before Amy Bargh’s rendition of the tear jerker “When She Loved Me” from Toy Story 2 brought rapturous applause!
The night was rounded off by a variety of acts from the 2000’s by the String Group the Wind Ensemble and the School Choir.
Throughout the evening our comperes Mr Campbell and Mr McGuire showcased a number of outfits allegedly worn in the style of pop stars of each decade from the Beatles to MC Hammer and from the Bay City Rollers through to Britney and Cheryl Cole. They had the audience in stitches with their cheeky quips and round ups of each decade!
It was a fabulous night, showcasing the many talents of Queenie!
Special thanks should also go to the sound and lighting engineers and the media crew. We really do have some talented pupils!
Thanks also to Steve of “Rags2Riches” (Kilmarnock) for providing us with the costumes.
