The Ayrshire Post Reports:Congratulations to Queen Margaret Academy for achieving their Green Flag status through the Eco Schools programme. This has involved teachers and pupils working together to discuss the environment and taking part in activities to protect the planet. To achieve this award the school had to meet all the criteria required in their mandatory litter topic as well as their chosen topics of waste management and biodiversity. The litter topic meant the school had to be cleared of litter for the arrival of the assessors; this took a major litter picking drive from teachers and pupils. The litter picking was a huge success which was noticed during the assessment and was also observed by the nearby residents, one of whom spoke to the assessors to praise the pupils’ efforts.
The assessors were also impressed with the depth of knowledge and determination to succeed on a variety of issues such as increasing wildlife in the school grounds and the school recycling scheme. The Eco group pupils made the following presentations to the assessors:
