Making it in the Movies
Last week saw QMA's “Making it in the Movies” IDL project.
This has been one of our most ambitious projects so far – however it was a challenge that some staff and Mentors seemed to relish! It was a fun week for staff and pupils. The Movie make up and wounds seemed to go down a storm- as did the Apple Field Trip. The official Oscars Ceremony on Friday was a blast with Mr Mackay’s group taking the “Best Movie” with the “There’s been a Murder!”. Ms McMillan’s surprise appearance as the MGM lion will ensure that Mr Mackay will be hit with every ‘please take’ going and Mr Flynn won an Oscar for his superb acting as a corpse! Vicious rumours of teachers being in until 8 o’clock editing movies and of staff trying to bribe Mrs Muir are all true. Those caught cheating will be named and shamed.
We had support from Inigo Garrido, Film Director,; Alan Bryden, Musician who worked with pupils on sound editing and recording; Ayr College- Make up and Beauty; Jennifer Paterson from Edinburgh University who provided Drama support and Jill Johnston Director and Script Writer.
Many thanks to staff who participated in lugging boards, getting the hall ready, supervising pupils and visitors and all the behind the scenes stuff that not everyone gets to see!
The prizewinners will be visiting the BBC on Saturday 8thJune for a tour.
All the news and pictures from the week can be found by following the link on our HOME PAGE or the link attached.
S3 Work Experience Programme 13-17 May
This year’s work experience programme was a resounding success. Pupils demonstrated their skills in a wide variety of placements and as always never failed to impress their prospective future employers. Reports from placements were extremely positive in their praise of our pupils- some were even offered part time jobs from the experience!!!
Well Done to Ms Seery who organises the programme each year and all pupils involved
Aid to the Church In Need
Well done to our S6 pupils who organised the Pointless Quiz to raise funds for Badagry. The winners were Jamie Gallagher and Beth O’Ware whose pointless answers put the QMA staff contestants to shame. A real lack of knowledge of the school, staff and pupils was displayed by Mrs McGugan, Mr Campbell (History), Mr Campbell (Maths) and Miss McGhie. We will not embarrass the teacher involved who couldn’t work out their name from an anagram!!!
A lot of hard work an impressive organisation went in to the fun event. The winners were awarded the prize of a “Pointless Cake”.
Just a reminder that we have had the S3 (now S4) sports championships on Tuesday (winners will be announced shortly) and that the Primary festival for p6 pupils for Athletics will take place on Thursday
The following pupils will be away with the PE Dept to Scotstoun Stadium in Glasgow to take part in the Scottish Athletics ‘Playground To Podium’ Talent ID programme.
