Admin & IT
The S3 and Admin and IT class made a very productive visit to University Hospital Ayr where they were met by Mr John Barrett Programme Manager.
Mr Barrett and his colleagues gave an extremely interesting presentation on how IT has changed the way Ayrshire and Arran and Health Board operate and on how IT has transformed the way many traditional
careers within the Health Board now interact and work through the use of IT. The visit helped pupils to see the significance of the work we do in class and how this is similar to what goes on in the world of work and that no
matter the career path chosen IT will have a part to play on how we carry out that work.
The visit introduced pupils to the use of social media in the workplace, use of apps and tablets outside the workplace, the impact of the Freedom of Information Act, new technologies such as digital recording using WinScribe and WinVoice the use of relational databases and the security and access surrounding the information and how this information is used.
The Business department would like to thank Mr Barrett, Ms Lindsay McLachlan, Ms Mary Keen, Ms Lorraine Kendall and Ms Miriam Porte for giving up their precious time and delivering a very professional, informative and extremely relevant visit.
